Message from the Chairman

Welcome to the Department of Accounting at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU). Today’s world is a world of industrialization and globalization. In this world a combination with the technological, industrial, and theoretical knowledge is essential to meet the up-to-date demand of the world. Though Bangladesh is an agrarian country; swift industrialization has become imperative for the country to keep pace with global development. To be successful in this competitive industrialized world, we need a skilled manpower in the field of accounting. Complying with the slogan of “Grabbing Financial Data, Transforming Information” the Department of Accounting has started its journey in 2019 (Session 2019-2020). Initially it had six faculty members including Dr. Syed Moudud-Ul-Huq as the founder Chairman of the department. Our bachelor’s (Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting) and master’s (Master of Business Administration in Accounting) programs offer state of the art curriculum and co-curricular experiences led by world-class faculty who are passionate about the educational mission of the department and eager to mentor students. The department also makes the student dexterous for the advanced study in the relevant area of accounting. Hence, it makes the students competent for the advanced study in the relevant area of accounting as well. However, our students are dominantly growing to implement concepts of accounting in a multifaceted and contingent environment in organizational and institutional process. This department is also thrives to produce high quality accounting graduates who can adapt with rapid progression of internationalization and made us top-notch. Further, MBSTU’s accounting programs are rare in that they are large enough to attract the attention of top recruiters. In near future, we will offer Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.), Doctor of Philosophy (P.hD.), and Professional Programs. At present, there are three (03) batches in the BBA program and one (01) batch in the MBA program. Currently, the total number of students and alumnus of the department are 157 and 46 respectively. There are seven (07) full-time faculty members in the field of Accounting & Finance. The department has well equipped Library of Information Science, Accounting Information Lab, Sustainable Accounting Research Lab, Bloomsburg Finance Research Lab, Student Counseling Centre, Accounting Information Hub, Hall of Excellence, and Hall of Examination for advancing students’ learning. The department is continuously running through seminars at national and international level and consistently building collaboration with industry and higher education. Remarkably, this department has been successfully completed more than 20 (twenty) workshops during Covid-19. To uphold the quality and confidence of ours, we also arranged Collaborative Online International Learning in 2021 with Coventry Business School, Coventry University, UK. The department has a long-tell of story of publishing many articles including ABS, SSCI having Impact Factor, Scopus etc. The outcome of those, we are also becoming the key player of the Faculty of Business Studies. The department has the intention to expand its activities even further in the near future by having its own association for Accounting. The department will continue in its endeavor to invest more in the coming days to enhance quality for education and research.
